How to update your voter ID
In the wake of Assembly Elections in five states including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana this year, several voters want to update their details, especially their address.
In this scenario, there is no need to rush to office to update the address. Whether it is a registration of your name or corrections of your voter ID car, you can do it online.
Log on to elections commission website http://www.nvsp.in by creating a user ID and password. Then fill up your details in the prescribed forms on the site.
This online update facility is available till Lok Sabha elections next year.
For new registrations, apart from passport size photograph, age proof document is essential. New registrations can be done through SMS alerts as well.
Earlier, booth level officers would visit homes to check the names and addresses of the voters. But, due to online facility, it is easy for both the voters and officers.
For identity proof, birth certificate, passport, PAN Card driving licence, or high school mark sheet are accepted.
Several people who have shifted from their old rented home to another home want to change the address.
They also can update their address online.
First, a passport size photograph is to be uploaded and then any of the prescribed documents can be uploaded for address proof.
In case you can’t upload your documents, you can raise request so that a booth level officer will collect your documents.
Ration card, bank passbook, driving licence, passport, and bills like gas bill, electricity bill and telephone bill are accepted for address proof.
After uploading the necessary documents, submit your application form.
Then, an email will be sent to you with updated details and application ID. You can track your application status using this ID.
You will receive your voter ID card or updated one within a month.
