India Creates History in Badminton
India creates a sensational history in badminton by winning two titles in separate events in a single series. The women’s title and men’s title are won by Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth. Both Hyderabadis won the series on China land in China Open Super Series Premier on Sunday in separate events. By winning both the titles in China Open Super Series Premier, India made new history.
Kidambi Srikanth won his maiden Super Series title by beating Lin Dan of China 21-19, 21-17, who is a two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion. Lin Dan is the one of the heroes who won all the nine super series in the world badminton, with 56 major titles overall.
It was indeed a spectacle to see such a badminton giant lose to Srikanth, who entered the match without any expectations. The match lasted for 46 minutes. This is the first time for the Indian shuttler to win a Super Series Title ever since the introduction of Super Series and Premium Tournaments.
Saina Nehwal succeeded over her opponent Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in her sixth appearance of the significant tournament with 21-12, 22-20. The match lasted for 43 minutes.
