IIT-Kharagpur student offered Rs 91 lakh
There is still a month to go. But already, IIT Kharagpur students are being flooded with pre-placement offers that show a 20 per cent hike this year.
IIT officials confirm that about 125 students have been given pre-placement offers and interviews, while most companies have hiked the package offered by around 20 per cent in this batch. So far, the highest offered is a staggering Rs. 91 lakh, they said.
International offers have poured in from Google Mountain View, Facebook, Works Application and Schlumberger, even as many first time recruiters have also registered for final placements with the Career Development Centre here. The final placements will start on December 1 in all the IITs, even as a 50 per cent increase in the number of the pre-placement offer is expected.
Currently, there is a lot of participation from e-commerce firms and startups, who are just fresh from the boom in foreign investments and funding from venture capitalists.
The boom in the Kharagpurian is mainly attributed to its “unique curriculum” and courses in Financial Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship, which gives a lead to students of IIT Kharagpur, unlike any other institute according to Punj Rajan, Vice-president of Technology Students’ Gymkhana, IIT Kharagpur.
From this year onwards, there is a special focus to boost the confidence of the graduating students, corporate workshops, case study contests, alumni mentorship session, assessment tests and soft skill training.
