Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana by PM Narendra Modi
PM Narendra Modi launched Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) on October 11 in Vignan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan. SAGY is a rural development programme with the participation of people, under which each MP will have to adopt a village of their constituency and develop it. This programme is driven by people and guided by the participation of people under the guidance of MPs.
PM expects if each MP, irrespective of parties identifies a village with 3,000 to 5,000 people in the plains and 1,000 to 3,000 in the hilly and tribal areas, and develop it as a model village by 2016. And if all MPs adopt two more villages by 2019, then 2,500 villages will be developed out of the 6 lakh villages in the country. If states also initiate similar programmes, around 7,000 villages will be benefited and each developed village can affect other village due to the viral effect.
MPs can choose village according to their choice, enable a village development plan and encourage villagers to participate in it. This programme is demand driven unlike the earlier country development model which is supply driven. The programme should focus on seeking the funds in a village and any short comings will be filled from funds from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
