Zuckerberg to log into India, Inc
The Indian seems to be having rather an American-like dream, what with the visit to the US by Modi, and then a hat-trick of celebrity visitors to India—Jeff Bezos, Satya Nadella, and Mark Zuckerberg.
The Facebook founder, Zuckerberg, is all set to face its fastest-growing market here on October 8 and 9. Apart from hobnobbing with the PM and minister, he is open to partnering with the government for its new Clean India Campaign.
India is currently a highlight on Facebook’s map, as the country is a significant and important market for the social networking company. The market research firm, eMarketer, finds that India has Facebook’s second-largest number of users after the US. The number of new users, though, will shoot up in 2014, as the Facebook users will climb to 108.9 million, as compared with 77.8 million in 2013. That totals up to about 10% of the Indian population—mostly young people.
Zuckerberg, one of the world’s youngest billionaires, with a personal wealth of $33 billion, is only the second top executive to come after the change of government here. In July, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, had visited and met Modi.
Zuckerberg’s visit is awaited eagerly, as the focus will be on increasing and consuming local content and value-added services in India. Zuckerberg will speak at the Facebook-promoted Internet.org’s Content and Usability Summit in Delhi, according to an invitation sent out by Internet.org. The summit aims to focus on accelerating the creation and consumption of locally relevant content and value-added services in India.
An American-like dream it is then, however short it may be….
