Taj Mahotsav

Taj Mahotsav is a cultural festival which started in the year 1992. Every year, many Indians as well as foreign tourists come to Agra for this festival in the month of February. The festival is being held from February 18 to February 27. One of the main objectives of this craft mela is to encourage the Artisans. They sell their work of art and craft at reasonable prices. There is no high maintenance cost on these products.

Around 400 artisans from all over the country come to the mela to display and sell their work. Famous works like wood/stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, wood carving from Saharanpur, brass wares from Moradabad, Pottery from Khurja, Chikan work from Lucknow, silk & zari work from Banaras, handmade carpets from Bhadohi, Bamboo/cane work from North East India, Paper mash work from South India and Kashmir, the marble and zardozi work from Agra, shawls & carpets from Kashmir/Gujarat and hand printing from Farrukhabad and Kantha stitch from west Bengal etc are sold here.

There are also cultural events in the festival. Artists from all over the country give their performances here. There are various folk and classical music and dance programs with artists from many regions. The Mahotsav also hosts world renowned artists of classical, semi-classical and popular art forms.

The Mahotsav has a huge variety of food available. There are a variety of cuisines offered here. There will also be a Funfair. It is the biggest attraction for children in the festival. There are various rides and fun activities here that an entire family can enjoy. There are rides like roller-coasters for adults to enjoy and there are smaller rides for children too.


The ticket price for a single adult is Rs. 40. It is free for children below the age of 5 and also for foreign tourists. In case of school children, a group of 50 school children can get entry for Rs. 300. In this case, two teachers have free entry.
