RTCA seeks ITR deadline extension amid tech glitches & festive rush

With the Income Tax Return (ITR) deadline of September 15 fast approaching, the Rajasthan Tax Consultant’s Association (RTCA) has urged the government to extend the due date.

The association cited persistent technical issues on the income tax portal and ongoing festive activities as major challenges.

The ITR filing season is underway. Currently, the due date for non-audit cases is September 15, 2025, while for audited cases, it’s October 31.

However, RTCA claims these timelines are unrealistic under current conditions.

In its appeal sent to the Finance Ministry and CBDT on September 1, RTCA highlighted several issues.

First, the delayed release of important forms, ITR-1 to ITR-7, 3CA, 3CB, and 3CD, has left taxpayers with little time to file.

Additionally, frequent technical glitches on the tax portal are disrupting the submission process.

Second, RTCA pointed to newly introduced reporting formats by ICAI for non-corporate entities.

These changes demand more effort and time from tax professionals. As a result, filing accurate returns has become more complex.

Moreover, the ongoing festive season from August to November, including Navratri, Dussehra, and Deepawali, is impacting compliance.

During this period, businesses shift focus from paperwork to sales, delaying document submission to tax consultants.

Another concern is the reduced time for professionals to handle audit cases. The government extended the non-audit ITR deadline from July 31 to September 15.

This move narrowed the time gap for tax professionals, affecting their ability to manage audited filings.

RTCA stated that they were respectfully requesting an extension to ensure timely and error-free compliance.

The association proposed a new deadline of November 15, 2025, for both Tax Audit Reports and ITRs under audit.

Failure to meet the current deadlines, September 30 for TAR and October 31 for audited ITRs, could attract penalties under the Income Tax Act.

RTCA hopes the government will consider their request to reduce stress and ensure smoother compliance.
