As global markets reel from economic instability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is urging Indians to back local industries and protect national interests.

Speaking in Varanasi, he underlined India’s ambition to become the world’s third-largest economy while calling for collective action to support homegrown products.

Without naming Donald Trump directly, Modi’s remarks came shortly after the former US President dismissed India as a “dead economy” and announced new tariffs on Indian goods.

In response, Modi rallied citizens to adopt a Swadeshi mindset and reduce reliance on foreign products.

Modi urged the crowd to pledge to fill their homes and markets with Indian-made goods.

He appealed to shopkeepers and traders to sell only indigenous products, emphasising that such efforts were tied to national pride and economic resilience.

With the US pressing India for trade concessions in agriculture and dairy, Modi stood firm on prioritising Indian farmers.

He showcased key rural schemes like PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Drone Didi, and Lakhpati Didi, aimed at increasing farm income and reducing costs.

He announced that nearly ₹3.75 lakh crore had been transferred to farmers under PM-Kisan.

In Uttar Pradesh, farmers received over ₹90,000 crore, with Varanasi alone benefiting from ₹900 crore.

Modi said that it was the power of the people who had elected a strong MP, which is why the money had reached them.

Referring to global economic challenges, he noted that countries around the world were prioritising their own interests.

He added that India must do the same and called for unity across political lines to support domestic growth.

Modi also inaugurated and launched 52 development projects worth ₹2,200 crore in Varanasi. These projects span infrastructure, health, and agriculture.

He concluded by urging action, saying that Swadeshi was not merely a slogan but the way to build a stronger, self-reliant India.

With protectionist rhetoric rising globally, Modi’s message placed economic nationalism at the centre of India’s growth strategy.
