Good to Grab transforms surplus food into opportunity
Addressing the critical issue of food waste, Hyderabad-based startup Good to Grab is revolutionizing how surplus food is managed.
Founded by childhood friends Srikanth Reddy Anugu and Sai Kishore, the platform connects restaurants with customers eager to purchase unsold food at discounted prices.
Their mission is to reduce food waste, cut environmental impact, and offer affordable meals to the community.
Good to Grab operates through an innovative app where restaurants list surplus inventory nearing the end of its shelf life.
Customers can browse these listings and purchase food at 50% off, collecting their orders directly from the outlets.
This not only prevents surplus food from being wasted but also aligns with sustainable practices by reducing transportation-related waste.
The startup collaborates exclusively with established brands like KS Bakers, ensuring that only high-quality food is available on the platform. The startup assures its customers to get safe food to eat though it is close to its expiration. They honestly communicate this fact to them.
Convincing vendors and customers about the quality of surplus food was initially challenging, but Good to Grab has successfully built trust through stringent quality checks and responsive customer service.
Any vendor failing to meet standards is swiftly removed from the platform.
Since its inception, the app has made significant strides.
Within its first year, Good to Grab partnered with over 80 restaurants, amassed a user base of 40,000, and saved more than 10,000 plates of food from landfills.
These efforts earned the team the Sustainability Championship Award at the 2024 Founders Fest.
Looking ahead, the startup plans to expand to other Tier 1 cities and partner with NGOs to serve underprivileged communities. They are also exploring an EV-based delivery model to enhance accessibility.
By transforming surplus food into an opportunity, Good to Grab is not just addressing food waste but inspiring a cultural shift toward sustainability, proving that small steps can lead to a big impact.
