Shape-shifting vehicle, a smart solution for urban traffic

In a remarkable feat of innovation, Rayavarapu Sudheer Anvesh Kumar, a self-taught innovator from Andhra Pradesh, has developed a groundbreaking shape-shifting electric vehicle designed to tackle heavy city traffic.

Despite having no formal engineering degree, Sudheer created a vehicle that can shrink to the width of a bike and expand to a regular car size, an innovation aimed at solving urban congestion problems.

Sudheer’s expandable and contractible vehicle, named MZ (Melchi Zedak), is built on a Jeep-style design and uses hydraulic systems along with battery power to transform its width.

In its compact form, it shrinks to 2.11 feet, similar to a bike, making it ideal for navigating dense city traffic.

When expanded, the vehicle reaches a standard width of 4.2 feet, accommodating up to four passengers.

This innovation stems from Sudheer’s real-life experiences in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, where he often saw bikes easily bypassing traffic while cars remained stuck.

Inspired, he decided to create a hybrid model that merges the agility of a bike with the utility of a car.

Technically, the vehicle is 7 feet long, weighs 410 kg, and can carry up to 1.5 tonnes, including four passengers. The design includes two foldable seats that become four when expanded.

Sudheer invested about ₹2 lakh in components like the hydraulic system, tyres, battery, metal frame, and braking system.

What makes this innovation stand out is its practical application. It’s not just a concept; it has already been test-driven in Kakinada and recognised by academic institutions like JNTU and Aditya University.

Furthermore, a UAE-based company is in talks with Sudheer for a project worth ₹50-75 crore, underscoring the global potential of his idea.

In a time when smart mobility solutions are crucial, Sudheer’s expandable vehicle offers a cost-effective, scalable solution for urban traffic.

With proper support, his invention could revolutionise last-mile transportation, reduce fuel dependency, and pave the way for intelligent urban commuting.
