Railways revamps ticketing timelines and services

Passengers often struggle with last-minute travel uncertainty, especially regarding ticket confirmations and planning.

However, Indian Railways has introduced a significant update to improve this experience.

The timing for ticket chart preparation has been revised. Earlier, charts were finalised about four hours before departure.

Now, they will be prepared 9 to 18 hours in advance. As a result, passengers can check their ticket status much earlier.


This change is particularly useful for those travelling from distant locations. Moreover, it allows better planning and reduces last-minute stress.

In addition, the new system aims to enhance transparency. With earlier chart preparation, passengers gain clarity about seat confirmations.

Consequently, this step may also help reduce the influence of illegal ticket agents. Travellers can now rely on official updates without uncertainty.

Refund rules have also been simplified. Passengers no longer need to pay extra charges for certain changes.

Therefore, this provides financial relief and encourages smoother cancellations or modifications. At the same time, more flexibility has been introduced for passengers.

For instance, travellers can now change their boarding station up to 30 minutes before departure. Earlier, such changes required more advanced notice.

Similarly, passengers can upgrade their travel class if seats become available. This option remains open until 30 minutes before the train leaves. Hence, passengers get more control over their journey.

Meanwhile, Indian Railways has also modernised its digital services. The older UTS app has been discontinued.

In its place, a new unified platform called RailOne has been launched. This app combines multiple services into one interface.

With RailOne, passengers can book general tickets, platform tickets, and reserved seats. Additionally, the app offers live train tracking and status updates.

As a result, users no longer need multiple apps for different services. Everything is available in one place.

These updates simplify the ticketing process. They save time and reduce confusion. More importantly, they make train travel more convenient and passenger-friendly.
