PM CARES for Children offers support to them
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday released benefits under the PM Cares for Children scheme.
The PM CARES for Children scheme intends to provide financial support to children who lost their parents or guardians due to COVID-19 starting from March 11, 2020. Besides, those who lost their surviving parents or adoptive parents are also eligible to get support under the scheme.
The scheme was launched last year to help all such children. Under the programme, children received a passbook of PM CARES for Children and a health card under Ayushman Bharat.
While releasing benefits, PM Modi talked to children through video conference. A few union ministers and chief ministers of many states also joined the programme.
The PM CARES for Children aims to provide comprehensive care and protection to children who lost their parents due to COVID-19.
It provides financial support worth ₹10 lakhs to all children who were affected by the pandemic. It also provides boarding and lodging support to these children. Besides, the scheme helps them get admission to schools.
They are entitled to get a health insurance cover of ₹5 lakhs. All school-going children are eligible to get a scholarship of ₹20,000.
Children who seek admission to higher education can get assistance in their studies by way of educational loans. PM assured of providing financial support in their higher education or for their professional studies. They will be given ₹4,000 every month to meet their daily needs.
The stipend will be given to the youth aged between 18-23 years each month. In addition to that, they will be given ₹10 lakhs when they attain 23 years.
So far, around 9,000 applications received, seeking support under the PM CARES for Children scheme from 33 states. Out of them, nearly 4,500 applications from 31 states were approved.
