Narendra Modi Launches Jan DhanYojana on 28 August
Prime Minister NarendraModi launches Jan DhanYojana scheme on 28 August. It is expected that one crore bank accounts will be opened on the first day itself. Under this scheme, every household is provided with a bank account and accidental insurance covers worth one lakh.
It is estimated that nearly 42% of Indian population have no bank accounts. The motive under this scheme is to save the population who do not have bank accounts and depend on money lenders for their emergency needs.
This is an aspiring financial inclusion scheme aiming to enroll over 7 crore households to open bank accounts and provide each account holder a RuPay debit card. Starting from 28 August, 2014, the initial stage of enrolling and opening accounts is expected to be ended by the end of August 2015.
Then the next phase will commence and continued till 2018 which covers pension schemes, micro insurance etc.
