Namami Gange Programme is in the news headlines for creating Guinness World Record. It is a flagship programme of the central government, aimed at a clean Ganga River.

Modi government approved it in June 2014 with a budget of ₹20,000 crores. The main objectives of the programme are to reduce pollution in River Ganga, protect and rejuvenate it.

There is also an event, Ganga Utsav, to celebrate it. Ganga Utsav is celebrated for declaring River Ganga as National River. It is a three-day event celebrated each year in November.

This year, Ganga Utsav 2021 began yesterday. Union Minister for Jal Shakti inaugurated the fifth edition of this River Festival yesterday.

This year’s river festival will be part of the 75 years of Independence celebrations. Under this, 75 events at various locations across the country are organized to celebrate the occasion.

Also, it had planned to set a Guinness World Record, and the programme achieved it, as planned.

For this, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) earlier asked all activists and Ganga lovers to share a photo along with a hand-written note on the Namami Gange Facebook event.

Several citizens from across the country uploaded photos along with poems, articles, and memoirs to Facebook. Thus, the programme created a world record.

As per the Guinness World Records certificate, the Namami Gange programme achieved the world record as most phots of hand-written notes uploaded in one hour between 11 a.m. and 12 noon yesterday to Facebook.

Rishi Nath, Adjudicator, Guinness World Records, presented the certificate to Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Shekhawat.

While giving the certificate, Nath said that it was clear that the programme received the most number of photos. He added that the exact number of photos would be declared later.
