As expected, the lockdown has been extended for two more weeks in India to fight against COVID-19. India entered into the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown.

Starting from today the lockdown will continue till May 31.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued guidelines that are applicable during the lockdown period.

Besides, the Health Ministry shared certain parameters to divide the zones into different categories like Red, Orange and Green. States are advised to follow them and decide the zones accordingly.


Here is are details of the fourth phase of lockdown in the country:

  • Inter-state movements of passengers have been permitted with mutual consent between states.
  • States and UTs can allow intra-state movement of passenger vehicles as per their will.
  • Sports complexes and stadia have been permitted to open, but audiences will not be allowed.
  • Only essential services are allowed in containment zones.
  • Restaurants can operate only for home delivery of food.
  • Weddings have been permitted with a maximum of 50 guests and social distancing should be followed.
  • A maximum 0f 20 people have been allowed to attend for a funeral.
  • Emergency service providers like healthcare workers, medical professionals and sanitation workers have been allowed for both intra-state and inter-state movement.
  • Schools and colleges shall remain shut. But online or distance learning is allowed.
  • Metro train services remain shut.
  • All entertainment places including cinema halls, entertainment parks, bars and auditoriums, swimming pools etc. shall remain shut.
  • All political, social, religious, cultural gatherings and all kinds of large congregations have been barred.
  • All domestic and international air travel of passengers to remain prohibited. However, domestic medical services, domestic air ambulance and for security purpose or any other similar purpose permitted by MHA have been permitted.
  • The night curfew shall continue to be in force between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
  • Children below 10 years, pregnant women, senior citizens above 65 years shall have to stay at home except for health and essential purposes.
