Kerala initiates ‘green mission’ on World Environment Day
Yesterday was the World Environment Day. On this occasion, Kerala government initiated several programmes to save environment. ‘Green Kerala Mission’ is one such programme under which the Kerala government is intended to plant numerous saplings in the state.
The state government of Kerala took lead role to observe the World Environment Day and encouraged the citizens to support ‘green mission.’ The Kerala government distributed one crore saplings across the state to plant them in the entire state.
Only fruit bearing and environment friendly trees were distributed by the government in order to save water and promote greenery.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his speech, appealed for the support of citizen from all parts of the society in planting trees throughout the state.
Several political leaders and celebrities joined in planting the sapling programme. Mohanlal, the well-known Malayalam actor joined in the sapling of plants programme at a college in Thiruvananthapuram. As part of these celebrations, Governor P. Sathasivam planted a sapling at the Raja premises.
Many school children actively participated in the plant sapling programme. Several local self-government bodies and voluntary associations joined in this programme and planted the saplings distributed by the government.
In order to save environment, a programme was launched under which some trees that cause harm to environment are cut down. Furthermore, another campaign ‘Connecting People to Nature’ campaign was also initiated.
As part of its green campaign ‘Jalswaraj’, BJP has distributed over 10 lakh saplings across the state for planting.
PM Modi and Environment minister Harsh Vardhan urged people to take an oath for a clean and green environment. PM said that the current generation should take steps to protect environment for the future generation. It is the responsibility of the people to save the environment
PM saluted those who are striving to protect the environment with their constant efforts.
