India’s billionaire bracket
For the first time, the 100 richest Indian businessmen are billionaires. Mukesh Ambani leads the league for the 8th year in a row, according to Forbes. His net worth is $23.6 billion, which is a boost of $2.6 billion over last year.
Second in the list is Dilip Shanghvi, whose fortunes rose by $4.1 billion.
Wipro’s Azim Premji has clambered up by one position to become Number 3. His net wealth shot up by $16.4 billion from $13.8 billion previously. Next comes Pallonji Mistry, owner of construction giant Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the biggest shareholder in Tata Sons, with a new worth of $15.9 billion. Lakshmi Mittal, at $15.8 billion, is now fifth, having dropped from the third rank from last year.
Forbes declares that the top 100 richest Indians have a combined wealth of $346 billion, which is more than a third from $259 billion within a year. The stock market has gained 28 per cent within the year. Almost 85 of the 89 who came to the list of top 100 within one year are richer, among whom there are several billionaires.
