India steps up vigil for nationals across West Asia
Governments often face critical tests when geopolitical tensions affect their citizens abroad.
India is currently navigating one such situation with heightened focus and coordination.
The Ministry of External Affairs has intensified monitoring across the Gulf and West Asia. It is prioritising the safety and welfare of Indian nationals in the region.
Meanwhile, Indian missions continue to operate round-the-clock helplines. They are also maintaining close coordination with local governments.
In addition, the ministry is issuing frequent advisories. These updates cover travel conditions, flight availability, and local regulations.
As a result, citizens receive timely and reliable information. Missions are also engaging with Indian associations and companies. Therefore, communication reaches a wider community base.
Special focus is being given to Indian seafarers. The government considers their safety a key priority.
Consequently, missions are extending consular support and coordinating with authorities. They are also helping crew members who wish to return to India.
Despite operational challenges, travel between India and the region remains active. Since late February, nearly 12,96,000 passengers have travelled to India.
This reflects continued demand and connectivity. For instance, the United Arab Emirates is operating limited flights. Around 110 services are expected daily under safety guidelines.
Similarly, flights continue from Saudi Arabia and Oman. The partial reopening of Qatar has enabled Qatar Airways to resume services.
Moreover, Kuwait and Bahrain have reopened their airspace. Airlines have restarted limited operations accordingly.
Elsewhere, Iraq allows restricted flight services. However, Iran remains partially accessible.
The MEA has advised Indians to avoid travel there. It has also urged those present to exit via land borders. So far, 2,445 nationals have been assisted in leaving Iran.
In Israel, limited flights have resumed. This provides additional travel options for Indian citizens.
The government continues to track developments closely. It stands ready to expand support as the situation evolves.
