Facts about third phase of elections

Polling is held Today for the third phase of Lok Sabha 2019 elections. This is the largest phase of Lok Sabha elections which is going on in 116 seats. These include all the constituencies of Gujarat and Kerala.

Here are some interesting facts about the third phase of Lok Sabha 2019 elections:

  • Several prominent politicians including the BJP President Amit Shah, the Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and various Union Ministers are in the fight.
  • The ruling BJP party along with its alliance won 66 seats out of these 116 seats in the 2014 general elections.
  • The Opposition Congress and its allies won 27 seats in those elections. Independents and the remaining opposition parties bagged the remaining seats.
  • The polling will be held in 26 seats in Gujarat and 20 seats in Kerala. In addition to that, polling will be held 14 each in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
  • The remaining seats are four in Assam, five in Chhattisgarh, six in Odisha, five in West Bengal, and 10 in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Furthermore, two in Goa, and one each in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Tripura are also part of this phase of elections.
  • Earlier, the polling was scheduled for April 18 in Tripura East constituency. But, it was included in this phase and polling will be held here today.
  • Around 18.56 crore eligible voters are voting in this phase of elections.
  • 2.1 lakh polling booths/stations have been established by the Election Commission (EC).
  • Wide security arrangements have been made for the polling by the EC.
  • With the third phase of elections, the polling in southern states will be finished.
  • In addition to BJP chief Amit Shah, several other candidates who won the seats in 2014 general elections are in the fray.
  • Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad in addition to his traditional Amethi seat.
  • All parties aggressively campaigned for the elections.
