Delhi government launches apps to curb pollution

Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the country. Each year, especially during the winter season, Delhiites suffer from various health issues due to air and environmental pollution.

To combat pollution, the Delhi government yesterday launched two mobile applications. Delhi Environment minister Gopal Rai launched these applications, the Advanced Green War Room app and Green Delhi App.

These apps enable users to complain about 10 different types of pollution during the winter season.

Some of them include industrial pollution, construction or demolition pollution, garbage burning pollution, vehicular pollution, road pollution, noise pollution, biomass pollution etc.

Delhiites can complain about their issue through these apps. A war room will receive complaints from people. The government will take further action accordingly.

The minister said that the app was launched for Android users last year, and now iOS users can also access the app.

He said that the government trained 2,500 people through the Green War Room in 27 departments of the central government, Delhi government, and Municipal Corporation to resolve issues raised by citizens.

The Delhi government also set up a joint team for the better implementation of the plan of action. The government is recruiting 50 engineers in DPCC for the smooth handling of issues received by the war room and coordination in the implementation of the plan.

The government also recruits Green Marshalls. They will visit the complaint site to ensure that the issue has been resolved. Besides, an additional team of 21 members will monitor the Winter Action Plan.

The minister also said that the government received 27,000 complaints last year, and out of them, 23,000 were resolved. The maximum number of complaints came from three departments. The government identified 150 pollution hotspots with the help of the app.
