Wake up to smoother hair

Frizz often begins long after your haircare routine ends. While shampoos and serums help, overnight habits can quietly damage hair texture.

Friction, dry air, and rough fabrics often undo careful styling by morning. However, a few simple bedtime changes can help hair stay smoother and healthier overnight.

One of the easiest fixes is switching your pillowcase. Cotton absorbs moisture and creates friction against hair strands.

In contrast, silk or satin surfaces reduce tugging and help retain natural moisture. As a result, hair looks smoother and less tangled after sleep.

Applying a lightweight hair oil before bed can also help control frizz. Oils like argan, jojoba, or coconut coat the hair cuticle and reduce moisture loss overnight.

Therefore, strands stay softer even in humid weather. Similarly, leave-in conditioner on damp hair adds hydration and smoothness while you sleep.

People with curly or wavy hair may benefit from the pineapple method. This technique involves tying hair loosely at the top of the head with a soft scrunchie.

It reduces friction while preserving curl shape overnight. Meanwhile, a loose braid can protect straight or wavy hair from tangling and create soft waves naturally.

Sleeping with soaking wet hair often increases frizz significantly. Wet strands remain fragile because the hair cuticle stays open longer.

Consequently, rubbing against a pillow causes more breakage and roughness. Letting hair dry at least 80 per cent before bed can reduce this damage considerably.

Hair towels also make a difference. Regular cotton towels feel rough against delicate strands and can lift the cuticle quickly.

On the other hand, microfibre towels absorb water gently and reduce unnecessary friction before bedtime.

Tight ponytails and elastic bands may also worsen frizz. They create stress points that lead to dents, breakage, and rough texture once released. Instead, soft scrunchies or loose styles offer better overnight protection.

Bedroom conditions matter as well. Air conditioners and heaters often dry the surrounding air, forcing hair to seek moisture from the environment.

Running a humidifier can help maintain balanced moisture levels overnight.

For textured or coily hair, silk bonnets provide added protection. They reduce friction completely while locking in moisture and preserving hairstyles for longer.

Small overnight changes like these can noticeably improve hair texture by morning.
