Procedure to update date of birth in EPF account online
One of the most common issues faced by EPF users is the incorrect date of birth. There are many reasons for it. Many people have two dates of birth, one is their original date of birth, and another is a registered date of birth in school records. This procedure was very common in the past.
But nowadays, due to awareness among parents, they are not willing to enter the wrong date of birth in the school records of their children. The official or registered in school records or the birth date in your birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths is a valid date of birth.
There are other reasons like negligence while entering the date of birth into the account. Whatever is the reason, if your date of birth is entered wrong in your EPF account, it will become a big issue at the time of withdrawing funds or pension. So, it is better to cross-check your date of birth in the account. If you find that it was entered incorrectly, then you can make it correct by the following procedure.
Visit the website of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and go to the UAN portal. Log in to the account with your UAN number and password. Choose the option ‘Modify Basic Details’ under the Manage tab.
Enter your Aadhaar number and then date of birth as per your Aadhaar card. Check the details you entered. You can delete the request if you enter the wrong details. If you update details as per your Aadhaar card, then the update is finished from your end. However, it shows pending status, i.e. pending at employer. Your employer needs to finish the process.
Remember that you can update your details if your UAN has not Aadhaar verified. If it is already Aadhaar verified, your details are not editable, i.e. you cannot change your details.
Apart from the Aadhaar card, birth certificate and any school or education-related certificate are also accepted to update the date of birth.
