Indian government wants to appreciate the tax payers for their contribution. The central government decided to issue appreciation certificates to honest tax payers who are contributing to the nation. The initiation has started recently. Some tax payers are selected and given appreciation certificates by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is sending these certificates by email to the tax payers who paid the income tax of Rs.1 lakh and more. The certificates will be sent by CBDT based on the level of tax paid for the Assessment Year 2016-17.

Those who have paid full tax without any outstanding amount of tax liability and filed their return online within the specific due date will be honored by the government by these appreciation certificates. At present the following types of certificates are being issued by the CBDT.

Platinum level certificates are issued for the individuals who have contributed Rs. 1 crore and more. Gold level certificates are issued to individuals who have paid tax of Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 1 crore. Silver certificates are issued to the people who paid tax of Rs. 10 lakh and Rs.50 lakh. Bronze certificates are issued to tax payers who paid tax between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs.10 lakh.

CBDT in its press release stated that the department is constantly striving to improve the services to tax payers and sought their cooperation to pay tax voluntarily. So far, 80,000 tax payers are issued these appreciation certificates via their emails.

According to statistics, only 10 lakh people are earning more than Rs.10 lakh per annum. This is equal to 2 per cent of the total tax payers in the country. If the tax payers reveal their income fairly and pay the tax to the government, then economy of the country will be grown. Hence, government is trying to find out ways to improve the tax revenue.
