Rumours increase sales of Parle G biscuits in Bihar | Fusion - WeRIndia

Nowadays, the news is spreading rapidly. Both good and news are spreading on social media and become viral if they catch the attention of viewers.

One such news spread in Bihar. It is a rumour that spread in Sitamarhi, Bihar. This rumour mainly spread in rural areas like Bajpatti, Bairgania, Mejarganj, Dheng, and Nanpur of the district. It led to an increase in the sale of Parle G biscuits.

As per the rumour, male children must eat Parle-G biscuits at the Jitiya festival to avoid unfortunate events in the future.

Jitiya or Jivitputrika is a three-day festival. It is celebrated in Ashwin month of the Hindu calendar. It is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Jivitputrika vrat is performed by mothers for the wellbeing of their children. On the first day, mothers eat vegetarian food after having a bath. On the second day, mothers observe strict fasting for the health and wellbeing of their children. They even do not drink water during the fasting. On the third day, a variety of delicacies are prepared for a festival feast. This year the festival was celebrated from 28 September to 30 September.

On the last day of the festival, i.e. yesterday, due to rumours, people rushed to grocery shops, paan shops, and medical shops to buy Parle-G biscuits. Long-standing queues were seen in front of several shops for these biscuits.

Many people tried to buy at least one packet of Parle-G biscuits to avoid unfortunate incidents in the future as spread in rumours.

It led to an increase in biscuit prices. Many shop owners involved in black marketing, saying that there was no stock of biscuits. They sold a biscuit packet of ₹5 for ₹50.

There is no confirmation of the origin of rumours but these created fear among people. Many frightened people desperately waited for buying biscuits by paying more money for them.
