Get Free FASTags before December 1
To help vehicle drivers, the government decided to make all lanes at toll gate FASTag enabled.
The NHAI is providing free stickers by exempting security deposit for those who buy before December 1 to encourage them to switch to FASTags.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said FASTags would be provided for free without a security deposit of ₹150 between November 21 and December 1.
After that, you will have to pay the security deposit.
FASTags are RFID stickers to be used to make electronic payment for toll charges. These tags are embedded with a unique identification number and mounted on the windscreen of a vehicle.
To pay the toll charges electronically, owners will have to link their bank account. While crossing the toll plaza the number is read by an RFID reader and the amount would be deducted from the linked bank account.
All lanes except one lane would become FASTag lanes from December 1.
This would cost the government ₹150-200 crore. However, vehicle owners and drivers need not wait in the queue to pay toll charges.
This would save their journey time.
You have to submit a copy of your vehicle registration certificate, two passport-sized photographs of the owner, KYC documents including address proof, owner’s driving license etc. to get a FASTag for your vehicle.
You will have to keep a sufficient amount in your bank account to pay the toll fee. Otherwise, your vehicle would be blacklisted and the next time you may have to pay double charges.
FASTags are made mandatory from December 1 by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Those who pay without FASTags at toll gate will have to pay twice the normal rate.
