Facts about LPG Insurance Policy
Most Indian households prefer for LPG (liquified petroleum gas) cylinders. Yet, due to its highly inflammable nature, they can lead to huge damages if the cylinder is faulty.
In order to protect customers against injuries and accidental death in the event of a leakage or burst, the LPG cylinder distributors opt for third-party liability insurance. There is no need for customers to pay premium.
Here are some important facts about LPG insurance policy:
- The customers and third parties are covered for damage expenses in unexpected events that occurred at their registered premises.
- The expenses covered include are medical expenses, property damage and death.
- The coverage amount differs from each company. As per the website of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the third party insurance details include the below-mentioned cover.
- In the event of death, personal accident cover will be available for ₹6 lakh. Medical expenses are limited to ₹30 lakh per event with a maximum of ₹2 lakh per person. Property damage cover is available up to ₹2 lakh per event at the registered premises. The total cover per year is ₹10 crore.
- The customers should report incidents to the local gas distributor. They should also furnish documents like the death certificate and Post Mortem report for the death, doctor prescription along with the medical bill, and other bills related to the hospitalization in the event of injuries.
- For property damage, the surveyor of the insurance company will visit and assess the loss.
- The insurance claim may be rejected if the accident occurs due to the negligence of the customers.
- Also, the insurance is applicable to accidents occurring at registered premises of the LPG customers.
- The company remit the claim amount to the concerned distributor who in turn remits the same amount to the beneficiary.
