India to witness a rare blood moon on September 7, 2025
Get ready, skywatchers in India, the night of September 7, 2025, promises a rare celestial event.
A total lunar eclipse will turn the full moon into a glowing red orb, popularly called the Blood Moon.
This spectacular event will be fully visible across most parts of India. The eclipse will begin at 8:58 PM IST on September 7 and end at 1:25 AM IST on September 8.
The total eclipse phase, when the Moon turns red, will last from 11:00 PM to 12:22 AM.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. During totality, Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon.
However, some sunlight still reaches the Moon after passing through Earth’s atmosphere.
The atmosphere filters out the blue light and lets the red light bend toward the Moon. That’s why the Moon appears red, hence the name Blood Moon.
In India, this eclipse is best viewed without any special equipment. You only need a clear sky and patience.
Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to watch with the naked eye.
Several other regions will also see the eclipse, including parts of Asia, Western Australia, and Eastern Africa.
However, India is among the few countries where the entire eclipse will be visible from start to finish.
That makes it a perfect opportunity for students, enthusiasts, and photographers.
Interestingly, this eclipse also coincides with the Corn Moon, the traditional name for the full moon in early September.
This year, the Corn Moon won’t shine bright but will appear reddish, creating a unique Corn Moon Eclipse.
You won’t need to spend a single rupee to witness this rare cosmic show. Just step outside, look up, and enjoy the wonder of the universe.
Mark your calendars; the night sky over India will glow red on September 7!
