Arunachal Pradesh student body urges govt to intensify border vigil

In response to escalating violence in Bangladesh, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has called on the state government to increase border surveillance. It urged the government to prevent the potential influx of illegal immigrants.

The student body has expressed deep concern over the possibility of displaced individuals from Bangladesh attempting to enter India through the interstate border.

In a formal representation to state Home Minister Mama Natung, AAPSU highlighted reports suggesting that the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh has led to the displacement of many people. It says that some may be seeking to cross into India illegally.

The students’ union stressed the urgency of this issue, noting that such unauthorized entries could threaten the delicate tribal ecology and disrupt the demographic balance of Arunachal Pradesh.

AAPSU stated in its appeal that many people are attempting to enter India illegally. It emphasised the importance of taking immediate and decisive action to prevent illegal immigration.

Besides, it also asserted that these measures are essential for safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities and preserving the socio-cultural integrity of the state.

AAPSU’s representation comes amid reports that the death toll in Bangladesh’s anti-government protests has risen to 440, according to local media.

The unrest has intensified following the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country in the wake of deadly protests against a controversial quota system in jobs.

In the interim, Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh’s caretaker government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The situation in Bangladesh remains volatile, with residents forming neighbourhood watches to protect against potential robberies and looting. In this context, AAPSU urges the Arunachal Pradesh government to act promptly in bolstering border security.

The student body remains confident that the government will take the necessary steps to address this pressing issue and ensure the safety and stability of the state.
