Sesappa’s Road From Struggle to Success

Sesappa’s Road From Struggle to Success

Success does not always begin with wealth or privilege.

Sometimes, it starts with a simple dream and the determination to keep moving forward.

For 46-year-old Sesappa, a civic worker in Karnataka’s Bantwal Municipal Council, owning a high-end car once seemed like a distant dream. Today, he drives a used Toyota Fortuner to work.

Sesappa joined the municipality in 1996 as a daily-wage worker. He earned just ₹50 a day and cycled to work every morning. Yet, watching people drive cars strengthened his belief that he could own one someday.

His first step came in 2006. He bought an Alto 800 with a bank loan. Later, he sold it and moved to an Omni. He eventually bought a Scorpio, taking another step towards the bigger car he had always wanted.

However, his biggest transformation began after marriage in 2003. Sesappa gave up alcohol and decided to focus on his family and career. That decision helped him build a more stable life.

Today, Sesappa earns around ₹39,000 a month. He works as a civic worker from 5 am to noon and regularly sweeps roads around BC Road.

He also works as a driver, plumber, mason and farm labourer whenever he gets opportunities.

His journey has also been shaped by painful experiences. Sesappa lost his father to alcohol-related problems.

He remembers having to carry his father’s body and perform the final rites alone. The memory continues to haunt him.

Despite those hardships, he refused to let his past define his future.

Just 15 days ago, Sesappa bought a used Toyota Fortuner. His son encouraged him to take the step and also uses the SUV during his Daiva Narthaka duties.

For Sesappa, the car represents more than status. It reflects years of discipline, hard work and sacrifice. He believes his deity’s blessings helped him overcome obstacles and fulfil his dreams.

His employer describes him as quiet, punctual and dedicated. He reports for duty at 5 am every day, with no complaints about his work.

From earning ₹50 a day and riding a bicycle to owning an SUV, Sesappa’s story proves that progress begins with persistence.

His journey shows that even modest dreams can become reality when hard work meets determination.
