Ambiator reinvents cooling with sustainable innovation
As global temperatures continue rising, energy-efficient cooling has become a major necessity.
Hyderabad-based climate tech startup Ambiator is addressing this challenge with an innovative air-cooling system that offers a cleaner alternative to traditional air conditioners.
The company focuses on reducing energy use while delivering affordable and eco-friendly cooling solutions.
Ambiator’s technology stands out because it combines two cooling stages in a single system. First, a heat exchanger cools incoming air without increasing humidity.
Then, an advanced evaporative cooling process further lowers the temperature using water-saturated pads and continuous water circulation.
As a result, the system delivers comfortable indoor temperatures between 24°C and 28°C with minimal energy consumption.
Unlike conventional air conditioners, Ambiator does not use harmful refrigerants. Therefore, it eliminates ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gas emissions linked to cooling appliances.
In addition, the system consumes only 1 kW of power per hour, making it nearly 80% more energy efficient than standard AC systems. This also reduces electricity bills significantly for users.
Another major innovation lies in its solar compatibility. Ambiator claims its product is the only packaged cooling solution designed to run directly on solar power.
Consequently, it supports net-zero cooling and reduces dependence on conventional electricity sources. The system also supplies 100% fresh and filtered air while maintaining low operational noise below 50 dBA.
The startup has integrated IoT-enabled smart controls into its cooling units. Users can remotely monitor performance, track energy usage, schedule maintenance, and access diagnostics through mobile apps or web platforms.
Moreover, the cooling technology uses water efficiently, consuming between 0 and 6 litres per hour depending on external temperatures.
The system has applications across homes, offices, factories, schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial buildings.
Furthermore, its lower installation and operational costs make it attractive for climate-vulnerable and low-income communities.
However, the technology still faces certain limitations. Since evaporative cooling performs best in dry climates, efficiency may be reduced in highly humid regions.
Additionally, regular water management and maintenance remain essential for long-term performance.
Founded by cooling industry veteran Tiger Aster and sustainability expert Jeeten Desai, Ambiator reflects India’s growing push toward climate-focused innovation.
Its approach combines sustainability, affordability, and smart technology to reshape the future of cooling.
