US probe on TCS, Infosys for H-1B visa violations
A media report has revealed that two of the biggest Indian outsourcing companies are being investigated by the US government for the possible violation of H1-B visa rules.
Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys are being investigated by the Department of Labor. The New York times have stated that they are being investigated for possible violations of rules for visas for foreign technology workers under contracts they held with an electric utility Southern California Edison.
The power company had recently set off over five hundred technology employees amid claims that several of those laid off were made to coach their replacements UN agency were immigrants on the temporary work visas brought in by the Indian companies senators Richard Durbin of Illinois and Jeff Sessions of Alabama proclaimed the investigation when they were notified by the department, the report aforesaid.
The move by the Labour Department comes days after the NYT had rumoured that many staff at amusement giant Walt Disney were set off and replaced with Indians holding H1-B visas. About 250 Walt Disney staff was told in late October last year that they would be laid off and lots of their jobs were transferred to immigrants on H1-B visas brought in by an outsourcing firm primarily based in India, the report had stated.
