India temporarily suspends e-visa for Chinese travellers
In the outbreak of novel coronavirus, India temporarily suspended the e-visa facility to those travelling from China.
Indian Embassy yesterday announced that travel to India on e-visas has been suspended with immediate effect to holders of Chinese passports due to certain current developments.
This rule is also applicable to citizens of other nationalities residing in China. The announcement also stated that already issued e-visas will also be no longer valid. It urged the holders of already issued e-visas to note this point.
An Indian who recently travelled from China to Kerala was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Very recently, a second positive case was also confirmed with this virus in Kerala.
The government says that these people should be isolated. Travellers from China should take precautions to avoid the spreading of this virus.
In the wake of two positive cases with coronavirus infection, the Indian government decided to temporarily suspend e-visas for travellers from the Republic of China.
The announcement stated that those who want to visit India for a compelling reason should contact the Embassy of India in Beijing or the Indian consulates in Shanghai or Guangzhou. They can even contact the Indian Visa Application Centres there.
Sources state that around 654 people have been rescued from coronavirus in Wuhan so far. In the first batch, 324 Indians were evacuated on early Saturday and another 323 Indians were rescued on Sunday.
In addition to that, seven Maldivian citizens were also rescued. Air India’s jumbo B747 flights were arranged for these passengers.
Wuhan city has been kept under a lockdown condition due to the outbreak of coronavirus. 300 people have died due to the infection of the virus. And 14,000 people are infected with it.
There is no official record on the number of Indians living in this city. However, the 11 million population that lives there is under quarantine.
