Airtel launches Wynk Tube
Focusing on smartphone users, Bharti Airtel on Tuesday launched Wynk Tube app. It is a music and video streaming app.
Wynk Tube is similar to any music app. Airtel targeted 200 million smartphone users in both tier II and III cities and rural areas.
Wynk Tube app will be available in 12 Indian regional languages including Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Bhojpuri.
Initially, the app is available in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Bhojpuri. It will be expanded to other regional languages soon.
The users of Wynk Tube can switch to videos or audios of any song while playing. The app is mainly aimed to reach out to users in small towns and cities.
Airtel also focused on education and healthcare and more content offerings can be expected from the company, says Sameer Batra, the chief executive officer of Bharti Airtel. However, no specific details have been provided by him on this.
Wynk Tube app is free for Airtel users whereas non-Airtel users will have to pay ₹99 per month after an initial free trial period of 30 days. Yet, data charges will be applicable for both users as per usage.
The music app Wynk claims to have more than 100 million users. Wynk Tube is an extension of Wynk Music. It is currently available for Android users.
The app has been built as a very light app. Hence, it can be operated even on basic smartphones seamlessly.
Wynk Tube is launching with a collection of more than 40 lakh songs and related videos.
Wynk Tube app has been designed by considering the digital entertainment needs of several million smartphone users in small towns of the country.
In order to improve the average revenue per users, telecom companies are increasing their focus on content offerings like music or video to increase their data usage.
