Solar Energy in India following a Global Trend

Solar Energy

India has made a plan to install 100 GW capacity of solar energy generation by the year 2022. This is five times bigger than the previous target set.

This sudden increase is due to the trend that is present all over the world.

The entire world saw a huge increase in the deployment of solar power in the last four years.

The main reason for this increase in solar energy generation is due to the sharp decline in the prices of photovoltaic cells which made the cost of producing energy from sun comparable to the cost of producing energy in traditional ways.

Compared to 2008, the prices have dropped by one third.

Considering this global trend of shifting towards solar energy and the reduced prices, it seems that the target of India is possible to achieve.

Till November 2014, only 3 GW of solar capacity has been installed in the country ever since the launch of National Solar Mission more than three years ago.

Even though 100 GW by 2022 is a big target, it is not unattainable.

If the government starts to follow the global trend and takes serious action to bring it live, we could be seeing a solar powered country very soon.
