If you are waiting for applying a new passport, and are hesitating to do so due to many rules, then this is a good news for you.

Government has announced new rules for issuing passport for various sections of the country.

In order to ease passport rules and make citizens get passport hassle-free, the Ministry of External Affairs notified various modifications to the existing rules.

So, it is the right time for you to apply for new passport.

Here are some important points for the new passport rules:

Now, eight different types of documents will be accepted as proof of Date of Birth (DOB).

The existing rules state that all citizens born or after 26th January 1989 must submit their birth certificate as proof of DOB.

But, as per the new rules any of the following documents can be submitted for proof of DOB:

Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births & Deaths, matriculation certificate, PAN card issued by the IT Department, Aadhar card or E-Aadhar card, driving licence issued by the Transport Department, election photo identity card and policy bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations.

Government servants can submit their service record or the pension order.

There is no need to write the names of both the parents. This rule is intended to ease the problems of single parents.

The single parent i.e. the father or mother can provide their name alone on the application.

The earlier 15 annexures have been reduced to nine now.

No attestation is needed. Only self-declaration is sufficient by the annexes on plain paper.

No marriage certificate is required to submit for married applicants.

Separated or divorced applicants need not mention their spouse names. Even they don’t need to provide divorce decree.

On behalf of orphaned children, declaration can be submitted by the head of the child care home to confirm their DOB.

Annexure G is needed to submit for the children who are not born out of wedlock.

No need of registered adoption deed is necessary unlike earlier rules for adopted children. Self-declaration is sufficient to confirm the adoption.

No objection certificate submission is not mandatory now.

Those who cannot obtain it from their employer can submit self-declaration in Annexure-N stating that they have informed their employer about their application for an ordinary passport.

Sadhus or Sanyasis can apply for a passport stating their spiritual Guru’s name rather than the names of their biological parents.

But, they must submit at least one public document like Aadhar card which should have the name of their Guru.
