Kailash Satyarthi – The Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian who won the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 became the talk of media now. He has been working for children’s rights for more than 30 years by founding the Bachpan Bachao Andolan. His activities and efforts came into spotlight with this world’s most renowned Award. He shares this award with Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani young girl known for her struggle against the suppression of children education.

Born in Madhya Pradesh, Kailash is an electrical engineering graduate. So far, Kailash worked to protect the rights of more than 83,000 children from 144 countries. He worked with several organizations to protect the rights of children. The international advocacy body of Global March Against Child Labor and the International Center on Child Labor and Education are some popular among them. He also established Rugmark which is currently known as GoodWeave International to stop illegal child labour in rug making industry. He is a member of UNESCO body.

Kaillash was elected as Ashoka Fellow US in 1993, and won Gold medal of the Italian Senate in 2007. University of Michigan awarded Wallenberg Medal to him in 2002. Apart from Nobel Prize, Kailash Satyarthi achieved several awards. Trumpeter Award, Golden Flag Award, Freedom Award, Alfonso Comin International Award, Aachener International Peace Award, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Award and Defenders of Democracy Award are some of them.
